The Institution
The Northline Institute for Business AI writes AI use policies for organizations and trains their staff to follow them. It was founded by Kyle Cunningham, founder of Northline Systems. Work is delivered in person in the Pacific Northwest first, with travel and virtual delivery available.
Staff in many organizations already use AI tools without written rules. The Institute helps leadership decide which tools are approved and which data may go where, writes that down as a policy, and trains people to follow it.
The Origin Story
The Northline Institute didn’t start as an education company. It started as a pattern.
Kyle Cunningham founded Northline Systems to design and deploy private AI infrastructure for businesses in regulated industries — law firms, medical practices, construction companies, financial services. Along the way, the same question kept coming up: who may use which tool, with which data?
That is a policy and training question, not a technology question.
Business leaders didn’t understand AI well enough to make adoption decisions. They couldn’t evaluate tools, couldn’t identify use cases, and couldn’t lead their teams through the transition. The technology was ready. Leadership wasn’t.
The Institute exists to answer it for organizations that are not buying custom AI systems: a written policy first, then hands-on training on it.
Every engagement follows the same approach: teach through practice on real tasks, and leave the organization with written rules it can keep using.
Our Mission
The Northline Institute exists to make business leaders AI-competent — not AI-aware, not AI-curious, but genuinely competent. We think AI literacy is now a basic leadership skill.
We don’t sell hype. We don’t teach theory for its own sake. We teach people to use AI on their actual work, within rules their organization has agreed.
Our Methodology
Every Northline Institute program is built on three pillars:
- Practitioner-Led Instruction. Sessions are led by Kyle Cunningham, who deploys AI systems through Northline Systems. When a participant asks “how would this work in my industry?” — the answer comes from experience, not a textbook.
- Business-First Curriculum. We don’t start with how AI works — we start with what AI can do for your business. Every exercise, every example, and every tool is framed around business outcomes. Technology serves the business, not the other way around.
- Implementation Over Theory. If you can’t use it Monday morning, we haven’t done our job. Participants work with AI tools on their actual business tasks during the training. They leave with working tools, written plans, and the confidence to implement immediately.

Our Programs
- AI Policy Workshop (from $3,500): a half day with leadership to sort your data into RED, YELLOW and GREEN, choose approved tools, and draft the policy.
- Policy + Rollout (from $7,500): the workshop plus a final policy for your counsel’s review, a 2-hour all-staff training, and staff sign-off. About 3–4 weeks.
- Team Training (from $12,500): two days on site, up to 25 people. See Team Training.
- Advisory retainer ($2,500/month, billed quarterly): quarterly policy review, new-tool approvals, refreshers, and incident help.

The Northline Systems Connection
Northline Systems is the private AI infrastructure company where the Institute’s methodology was developed. While the Institute focuses on education — teaching business leaders to use AI tools and build AI strategies — Northline Systems provides the technical infrastructure: private AI deployments, custom integrations, and managed AI services for organizations that need purpose-built solutions.
The two organizations are complementary. The Institute builds AI literacy. Northline Systems builds AI infrastructure. If an organization later needs a system built, that is Northline Systems’ work.
